Hard codec vs. cloud solutions

Hardware codecs have been used as standards-based (H.323 protocol and now SIP) endpoints for video calls for many years. These “hard codecs” have always been fairly expensive systems that rely on very expensive back-end infrastructure servers. These systems function stably and reliably, but in addition to the high purchase costs, they also require a high level of maintenance.

Network cloud

A soft client or cloud solution is a hardware-independent software solution that runs on user devices (notebooks/tablets) or room PCs/tablets (Microsoft Windows or MAC OS) and connects to the back-end infrastructure either via a cloud service or with its own servers (on-premise).
